RIP Granddaddy

We got a call at 12:40am that Granddaddy had just past away. We knew it was coming as he had been failing for some time now, but that still doesn't make it less sad. We have been talking to family all morning grieving, mourning and also sharing some wonderful memories. Granddaddy lived a long and full live. He was an amazing husband to his wife (Grandma Bette), a wonderful father to his two daughters (Aunt Susan and Drew's mom Sandy) and an incredibly loving and caring granddaddy to his 6 grand-kids and their spouses or significant others. Granddaddy was blessed to live long enough to see himself become a great granddaddy to two great grandsons Aiden and Boston.

In November we were able to spend three days with them and introduce them to Aiden. One of the days we actually got to go out on the town with Granddaddy as he and Aunt Susan showed us around quite a bit of Humbolt County. Those are the final memories we will treasure. He was happy, still had some strength and excited to be with Aiden. They would play in the curtains right next to Granddaddy's chair. Aiden would hide in them and then pop out and try to surprise him and Granddaddy would play along and Aiden laughed so hard it was really fun to see. He was so patient with him.

Granddaddy was a loving, giving man. He loved his family and his country. He loved the outdoors and had a personal garden in every house he lived at. I learned so many things from him it would take hours to list them all. He is one of a very few I have heard of that has an honorable discharge form 2 different branches of the military. A veteran of foreign war and defender of freedom. He always said 'work smarter not harder' and I have always tried to. The world is one great man less, and heaven has increased by one.
