Merry Christmas!
Last Sunday we actually went to see the big guy. I were prepared for the usual excitement from a distance and then when we got closer figured that Aiden would get scared and back out. He's only 3 and let's face it, Santa is a big guy with a big white beard and in a very large red suite. A good healthy fear might not be a bad thing. Aiden has been ALL about Christmas this year which has been so incredibly much fun!! Flicker has been a welcomed addition to the family and Aiden looks for him daily. Anytime he hears or sees Santa on TV, in a book or anything for that matter he gets so excited. We have been reading the Christmas story and watching all the fun holiday specials together. He also loves Frosty and Rudolph which makes Drew happy because those are his favorites as well. I love when the shows we already approve of him watching do a Christmas themed show like his Word World and Keegan's Handy Manny. We started the Advent Calendar as well which is the coolest train (which of course Aiden LOVES) and he is all into that as well. Every night he does the countdown (well uo) "1,2,3 Merry Christmas!!" and we flip the lights on. I think he is really going to have the post holiday blues when all the decorations come down and the hype goes away.
I digress - back to Santa.... So, we decided to take Aiden down to see Santa. The line was a good 35 minutes long and we almost said forget it but thankfully they had different activities that entertained the kids while we waited in line. They had Frosty and Rudolph walking around which Aiden liked to see but he hid behind us and would go as far as giving them a high 5 but that was it. He wanted a body between him and them. Drew and I saw this as just a foreshadowing of what was to come. We started telling Aiden that he was going to have to sit on Santa's lap and tell him what he wanted for Christmas to which he replied, "Ok Mama." Drew and I laughed. It's gonna be the same story...all excited until the moment happens and then he'll freak out. Typical, but you gotta try right. So we are just about at the front of the line and Aiden informs us that he has to go to the bathroom. He and Drew go racing off and I start to wonder if this is the beginning of the stall tactics. They come running back and we are up next so we prep Aiden again that he will have to sit on his lap and tell him what he wants for Christmas and again he says, "Ok Mama." They call our name and up we go..... Much to our amazement....guess who seriously had NO fear of Santa?!?! Who knew!! He jumped right up on his lap, told him he wanted a "big train" and then gave him a big hug, hopped down, blew him a kiss and said, "Merry Christmas Santa! Yuv you!" Then we gave Mrs Clause a hug and said, "Merry Christmas - I picked my jaw up off the floor and we walked away :).
Oh my gosh. Who is this grown up kid and what did he do with my Aiden? The Christmas spirit truly is magical. I love it!! He's gotten so brave this year and grown so much! 2-3 had been a HUGE year of developmental and emotional growth.
Keegster on the other hand wanted NO PART of Santa and I can only assume that will change in the next year or so. This was just a further reminder to cherrish every moment because they change so quick. Drew and I love these kids so stinkin much and the holidays is such an awesome time to be parents! :)
