2 Months Old!

Aiden was two months old yesterday and we celebrated by taking him to see Santa. He's not too interested in him yet, but I'm sure he will warm up to him one of these days. These have honestly been the hardest two months of our lives and the best two months of our lives. It's hard to believe it's only been that long. It may sound silly, but we were talking this weekend that we almost don't remember life without him - I know, I told you it sounded silly :) Aiden is such a precious gift that we are grateful for everyday. Even during his mad screaming fits we both look at him and are completely in love with our son!

This has been a really fun month watching Aiden develop. He knows where sounds are coming from. If the dogs bark he looks in their direction. Every time we put him in his swing, he looks up and waits for the mobile to start. He is smiling and cooing like crazy and we have found some ticklish spots. He will look at you and attempt to have a conversation while cooing at you.

My favorite thing that he has started doing this month is....there are two crosses hanging in our house - one is on the wall above our bed and the other is down stairs in the family room. Aiden will look at both of them and smile the biggest smile. You can move him around and his eyes will stay fixed on it - I totally love it!!! His favorite thing this month has been discovering his tongue and learning to blow bubbles and eating his hands.

Aiden has two big Dr. Appointments coming up this week. He goes back to the cardiologist and we are praying that we hear that his valve has started to close on it's own. After that he goes to the pediatrician for his two month well baby exam where he is going to be getting his first round of immunizations. I'm a little torn by this one... on one hand our child is sick and there is a lot of controversy about immunizing a sick child and how they are starting to link that that with mild forms of autism, and on the other hand - our child is sick and needs the boost to his immune system. I would be really interested in hearing your perspectives and opinions.

Wow! He is getting to be SO big! Such a little cutie!!

Re: immunizations, I know that is TOUGH one and know people who feel strongly on both ends. I think it comes down to doing research and talking with your doctor and settling on what's right for you guys. I know some people delay the schedule a bit...but I can't imagine any solution is right for everyone. Uff.

Merry Christmas!!

As a mom of a child with autism, I had to respond. TJ & Aiden's stories are very similiar. They were both sick infants. Of course, Travis and I did what every first time parents does...we vaccinated. At 8 weeks, TJ was diagnosed with acid reflux and RSV. He was on medication and steriods. At that doctor appt. he was vaccinated with 5 live viruses. His body was weak and couldn't handle them like a normal child. I would strongly encourage you to wait...it's not worth the risk. We have done many tests and there are traces of mercury and aluminum is TJ's body. (A healthy person excretes mercury within 3 days.) Not to get all Jenny McCarthy on you..but it's true, vaccines shouldn't be one size fits all. You should read the ingredients of the vaccines on the CDC's website. It makes me sick to my stomach. They are still listing thimerosal (mercury preservative) as an ingredient. It doesn't matter what the amount is..I don't want it in my child's body. Some kids who are healthy can handle them...and my kid couldn't. Please wait and learn from my mistakes. Mommy instict goes a long way.

As someone who works in the medical community I can tell you that I have seen quite a few children die in the PICU from not being routinely vaccinated. I also strongly believe in breaking up vaccines instead of giving them all at one visit. I honestly just do not see a medical link between vaccinating and autism. There also is no way to diagnose autism fully until your child is 5 yrs old. Kim, I really hope you are able to see that vaccinating your child for preventable disease outweighs the scare of possible autism w/o a clear link to vaccinating.

The AAP is screening for autism at 18 MONTHS. A Child Psychologist and Behavioral Ped. will diagnose at 2 years. They recognize that early intervention is key.

There are many doctors that believe that vaccinations cause autism. I'm not only talking about DAN doctors, but Immunologists as well. Even Dr. Sears is a DAN doctor, which is huge.

I was pro vaccinations even after TJ was diagnosed. My typical daughter was vaccinated. But when your DAN doctor & Immunologist tell you that vaccinations are resposible for your child's autism (after many blood, urine, and poo tests)..your views change fast.

Kim - I'm not trying to start a pissing competition here. You asked about people's experiences..and since you mentioned the "A" word, I had to share ours. I just want to let you know that there is another side. If you are interested in it you can: research biomedical intervention, DAN protocal, the gut-brain connection, go to an Immunologist and have his Immunoglobulin tested, or just read Mother Warriors. Generation Rescue will be on Larry King tonight. I know they are replaying the episode, so you should check it out.

Bottom line is - whatever you decide to do...vaccinate or not..Aiden will be FINE. I'm not in any way saying that if you vaccinate, he will have autism. I just wanted to share our story, because you asked for people's opinions. Every child is different. Just because this happened to mine, does not mean that it will happen to yours.

BTW...I'm signing in anonymous because I forgot my google password. Like you didn't know who this is anyways. A.L.
