The latest happenings

So yesterday was quite the eventful day, from beginning to end. We started off the day by having Aiden's circumcision done. I went into the procedure with him, and the boy was a champ. He hardly made a peep the entire time and it was a successful procedure. We were told that the trauma of having the circ done was going to knock him out for a good 4-5 hours, and sure enough, he slept for a while. I took the opportunity to go home and get a shower and some more changes of clothes (we only live 10 min away from the hospital), while my mom hung out with Kim and Aiden.

As the afternoon wore on, Aiden wasn't eating much and his breathing became more like panting. Our nurse on duty became concerned and asked to take Aiden to the nursery for some tests. X-rays revealed that he had Meconium in his lungs, along with some fluid from the c-section. Because he was having a hard time breathing, he was having a hard time eating. He couldn't coordinate, suck, swallow, breathe needed to take big gulps, and that caused him to become dehydrated, which caused him to have a fever. All of this along with the possibility of an infection because of the Meconium, led them to take little Aiden up to the NICU. This was not our favorite part of the day. It was extremely hard to watch them take your son away from you and into a place where you couldn't hold him or nurse him. Many tears were exchanged, but a friend of my parents reminded us of Psalm 139 and that Aiden is "fearfully and wonderfully made" with a purpose that God knew even before he was a twinkle in our eyes.

So they had Aiden on an IV of 2 antibiotics, and sugar water for his nutrition. We are still waiting lab results, but the reality right now is that Aiden will spend the rest of his time here at the hospital in the NICU, and depending on how much infection there is, will be released in the next 2 - 10 days. So there is a chance he will come home with us Saturday if everything clears out ok, or it might be longer, but the antibiotic should take care of all nastiness in him and all will be well.

The last event of the day was that my brother Bryce made a surprise appearance from AZ at about 10:30 last night, which was a surprise to everyone. My dad landed safely at SNA last night at about 10:40 we were able to take both Bryce and Gramps up to see Aiden one at a time.

We went up to visit our boy this morning and he was much better. He has started to eat through a bottle, which is fantastic, his fever has disappeared, and the morning x-rays showed massively reduced traces of the Meconium. The determining factor on how soon Aiden gets to come home is how the tests on his blood come back. If the blood is growing cultures they are going to keep him for 7 - 10 days, if it comes back clear we can take him home. Kim is pumping every 3 hours and we are using the milk to help feed Aiden.

Please keep our little man in your prayers - he's strong and a good little fighter!

I'm glad to hear that he is doing better. I know how scary it can be to have something happen like that! So glad that Bryce and Uncle Jim are there with you too!

So, we'll keep you both and Aiden in our prayers.

Love you guys!

Drew and Kim,

Bill and I understand the feeling of helplessness with a little one in the NICU. We are praying for all 3 of you and know that God made Aiden and loves him more than you do (hard to imagine, we know!) My mom sent me Ps 139 the day David was born and it got us through the difficult days and nights!

We love you guys and are praying for you!

Love,
Donna, Bill and David
